First player that crossed my mind when comparing World Series pitching prowess was Mickey Lolich. Mickey is ahead of Madison. And the line is pretty long!

The problem that Madison Bumgarner (and any pitcher like him) will always face is that big, heavy, Curt Schilling-shaped elephant in the corner of the room. Any time a postseason-centric HoF pitching case hits the ballot from here onwards, it's going to have to pass the Curt Schilling test. Regardless of the reasons for why this is, Curt Schilling is not a Hall of Famer. Therefore, my opinion, any postseason resume worse than Curt Schilling's provides little to no value to a Hall of Fame case.

If you catch yourself saying 'wow. That's pretty much all of the postseason resumes,' I say yes. That's correct, and it's exactly the point. Curt Schilling is one of the best playoff pitchers in history. Postseason excellence bought him nothing on the ballot. If you're any worse than that, which Bumgarner is in my opinion because 2014 can only count for so much, you don't get anything from my HoF perspective either.

MadBum defenders would be in essence asking us to forget that Curt Schilling ever existed. I think a lot of people would love to forget that Curt Schilling ever existed, but not (supposedly) objective baseball writers. Curt should be the first thing that comes to their mind when looking at a case like this, and it should show them that merely being great in the postseason is not enough, according to their own standards.

I’m a long time Giants fan and I LOVE MadBum! His 2014 World Series, Game 7 win, and save was epic. In fact, so much so l, I actually thought I was dreaming. The next day I had a 9 hour back fusion surgery, when I came to the first words out of my mouth to my wife and son were, “Did the Giants still win?” MadBum will always have a special place in Giants lore, but HoF’er, as much as it pains me, I have to agree he’s not. Now, how about Buster Posey?

For me Posey is a pretty easy yes.
