Got to meet Feller at an Indians’ spring training game and have him sign a ball, after paying $10 for the privilege. Money well spent. Told him I appreciated his service. He was friendly but gruff, if that makes sense. Before the game, he was introduced to the crowd, and, in uniform, played a little catch with (I think) one of the batboys. Given Bob’s business sense, I was a little surprised he didn’t auction off the opportunity to play catch for a minute on the field. Feller was no wallflower, that’s for sure, but I think he was a great American, a fine businessman, and a constant self-promoter.

Really interesting thoughts. My only pushback is that there is greed and there is “greed”—by all accounts Feller was never the most charming person but it’s not like Jeff Bezos was out there barnstorming. Probably more akin to someone trying to clear debts or regain a financial cushion.
