For those of you who get email notices whenever I post here, you’ll recognize this photo, which is the header of my emails.
Obviously, that’s the warning track at Fenway, in front of the Green Monster. I have no idea who the folks are on the right, looking up at the scoreboard. But I know who the adorable little blond girl on the left is. That’s my daughter, Katie.
She graduated from college today, The University of Kansas, to be exact. (Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!)
Having the chance to be on the field at Fenway with her and my son all those years ago could fairly be called a dream come true for me. And today, a dream came true for her. She graduated from the school she always wanted to attend, with the degree she always wanted to have.
She starts her teaching career in the Fall. It’s not possible for me to be more proud of her.
When James Earl Jones’ character said that wonderful line - “Baseball has marked the time” - in Field of Dreams, I don’t think this scenario is exactly what the writers had in mind.
But I don’t care. Katie had a dream come true today, 21 years after she helped one come true for me.
That’s more than enough for me.
