Someone with the handle “BaseballHistoryNut” recently started a thread on Twitter asking people if they remembered their first baseball glove. When I saw that, my initial thought was “Hey, this guy took my idea.” It was a silly thought, of course, because anyone focused on baseball history could stumble upon the notion of discussing old gloves all by themselves without any help from me. After thinking about it for more than a few seconds, it seemed pretty obvious that happened here.
It also occurred to me the more I thought about it that this person had done me an incredible favor. While I love my subscribers here (and thank you all again for following along), there aren’t nearly a quarter-million of them. That Twitter account has over 225,000 followers, so their post about first gloves produced literally thousands of responses, many with photos. That provides me with enough fodder to keep this particular series running long into the future, so thanks BaseballHistoryNut!
Yes, this means you’ll see me dipping into that well pretty often moving forward, and the first one I’m pulling from it is longtime Reds shortstop Dave Concepción.
