Recently, I stumbled across a wonderful piece by Christopher Buckley in which he wrote about nostalgia, his father, the 1950s, and baseball. I encourage you to read it. In that piece, he mentioned the first baseball glove he got as a kid, one he’d nagged his father for and always been turned down, only to find it waiting for him upon coming home one day, a total surprise. It was made by Wilson, the Bob Feller autograph model, and likely looked a great deal like this:
If you look closely you’ll see that the Bob Feller autograph on the last finger of the glove is mirrored by an actual Bob Feller signature in blue ink below it. This particular glove is currently for sale on a memorabilia site, and is complete with authentication sticker and certificate. You can have it for the low, low price of $289, marked down from $349. That’s too much for my personal taste, but your mileage may vary.
What I love about this glove is that it says “Ball Hawk” on that same finger, right at the tip.
