About a month ago, Jerry Davich of The Times of Northwest Indiana wrote a lovely piece in which he recalled his first baseball glove, and asked other people about the memories they had of theirs. That’s behind a paywall, but there’s a reprinted version you can access in the Sioux City Journal.
He said his glove was blue, and stiff, and he did a bad job breaking it in, but that buying it with his own money made him walk with a certain swagger. He didn’t specify the brand of the glove, or if was the signature model of any particular player. I imagine it looked sort of like this generic JC Penney model, only newer, and stiffer, and left-handed.
The astroturf backdrop fits, too, because Jerry was a child of the 1970s and 80s, and that stuff was everywhere at the time.
