Just before I went on vacation, a tweet came across my feed that made me click on the little “bookmark” icon faster than I have in a long time. I’ve been really eager to write about it ever since.
Without further ado:
Now, this was a reply to a post that was already a couple days old, so it didn’t get an enormous number of interactions. The ones it did get, though, were the very definition of what the kids call “being ratioed.” Michael Girard’s opinion got 14 comments. No one “liked” it.
As you can imagine, the comments were not kind. They included all of the following:
“Are you smoking crack?”
“I’m here to remind you that Jack Morris is in the Hall of Fame.”
“This is literally a r-word take.”
“You clearly know nothing about baseball.”
“lmao...you clown”
Yeah, it wasn’t pretty, and stands as a pretty good example of why you probably shouldn’t post things on social media at 2:07AM. Still, to Michael’s credit (I guess), he stuck to his guns. In the face of those criticisms and many others that were more polite and fact-based, Michael replied, “I stand by what I said.”
