Archives: The Weirdest MVP
Just a reminder that I’m on vacation this week, so I’ll be re-running some editions from the archives.
Well, it probably wasn’t the weirdest, but that’s what I called it on March 1, 2023 when I first wrote this piece about the 1934 American League MVP. That was year when the voters decided not to give the award to a Triple Crown winner and instead give it to someone on the pennant-winner. That’s fine in some cases, but in the case of the 1934 award, the voters didn’t come close to giving it to the best player on that pennant winner, which is what makes it pretty weird.
