In April, 2023, there was a good deal of talk in the country about judicial recusals. I won’t get into the reasons why that was a hot topic, you can use your Google machine and find out all about that. Plus, I provide a few links in the edition below. Explore to your heart’s content.

I bring this up because a case of judicial recusal, or the lack thereof, has been impacting major league baseball for over a century and most fans don’t have any clue about that. So, back when the subject was in the news, I spent an edition to briefly bring folks up to speed on what it was and why it matters (or should) to baseball fans.

As usual, I’m avoiding political discussion on this subject and encourage all of you to do the same. While I recognize that matters related to the Supreme Court have been politicized in this country nearly since its founding, the fact is that there really shouldn’t be a “both sides” or politicized view on a subject of this sort. If we can’t all agree that judges should follow basic legal ethics and not sit in judgement on cases that involve their family members, then we’ve sort of lost the entire plot of what America is supposed to be about.
